I love the smell of cake batter in the morning…

so when i’m off to a picnic and bringing a plate, cupcakes are my weapon of choice.

This time I wasn’t content to go with my old faithful mini vanilla cupcakes and vanilla icing. I was itching to try something new and, as is well documented on this blog, I have lemons on the brain. I had just been on a day trip to the Southern Highlands where I picked up another jar of Lemon Curd and needed to use it stat.

So I made these.
Lemon Meringue Cupcakes.
Bam.

So now that we are all clear with what Galentine’s Day is, you can begin planning your Galentine’s Day celebration for next year. Because, having attended my first ever Galentine’s celebration, I am now convinced that this is perhaps the most awesome holiday of the year. This year, my friend Sonibon generously hosted our inaugural celebration with a delicious picnic at the park.

Friday Favourites: Haigh’s Violet Creams

It’s been a tough couple of weeks and tonight I really feel like a little indulgence. So, as I lie on the couch writing this blog post i’m indulging in a couple of the delicious chocolates that this post is dedicated to. Haigh’s Violet Cream chocolates are my absolute favourite chocolates of all time.

Summer Loving: Lime syrup cake with blackberries

One of the greatest things about summer is all the lovely fresh fruit. Since getting hitched and grocery shopping together (regularly) for the first time, we have been trying out different grocers. One of my favourites so far is Norton St Grocer and this is where we found these luscious blackberries. They looked so glossy, plump and juicy that I thought they were begging to be made into a cake. Of course, one of my favourite cakes came to mind and I figured i’d pop them into a lime syrup cake. That way, if I screwed them up somehow, at least I knew i’d like the cake in the end.
